The Art World of Jachym Novotny

Jachym is engaged in creative activities in several artistic fields. He is a graduated composer with the degree of DiS., he has been attending carving courses in the studio of Magdalena Mezl for over ten years, he has attended drawing, painting, graphic and spatial design courses in the class of Vlastimil Elsik for eight years, and he has been learning to play the piano since school age. He is devoted to literature out of his own enthusiasm. He writes poems (free verse and bound verse) and prose.

Musical creation

Jachym has been studying music professionally since the age of 25, when he began studying with Prof. Ondrej Stochl at the Jan Deyl Conservatory. He finished his studies with the degree of DiS. The subject of his graduation thesis was Steve Reich, an American composer, a central figure of musical minimalism. In his music he applies a sense of perception of the rhythm of speech, and he enjoys working with text. He adds his own text to his works or sets texts by well-known writers.

Artwork

Jachym works with both surface and spatial design. He flirts with painting, but mainly draws, preferably portraits. His favourite technique is pencil or charcoal. He is the author of the cover of the book The booklet of good madness by Alexander Wittlich, here as a reproduction graphic artist he is also the author of the entire typesetting and graphic design. He is also the author of the covers for his father Jaromir Novotny's collections of recorder pieces entitled Peddlestics and Etudes Popletudes. Today, he mainly creates marionettes out of wood, inspired by the worlds of Tim Burton. He also makes his own dresses for the characters from his film The Corpse Bride.

Literary work

He has been involved in literature since childhood, when he experimented with small poems. He was active on the literary portal Pismak.cz. After entering the Conservatory, he sought to combine his lyrics with music. He wrote his own lyrics to the song Tears of the Water Dragon, and he also attaches his own poems and lyrics to recordings of his songs on YouTube. He currently has a fairy tale story in progress, The Cat and the Bird, which he plans to release as a sequel on his YouTube channel. Lichoshlap [The Odd-stepper man] is the name of one of the main characters in the fictional horror story set in the Jan Deyl Conservatory.
